Week 3: The Comic Strip

For this week, I decided to read Peanuts Vol. 5 1959 to 1960 by Charles M. Schulz. I have actually never read a Peanuts strip before despite it being so widely popular, so it was a pleasure to experience for the first time. I also now understand why the comic was such a big hit; it is hilarious and is a great read. I was hard laughing with each page to the point my body was shaking. Even though reading this is a class assignment, I want to read Peanuts on my own free time. I was hooked into the collection with the very first page where the character Lucy is handing out lists of everybody's faults.

Her snarky attitude and sassy personality is hilarious to read and aligns well with my sense of humor. She is my favorite character despite her being a pretty mean person. I also really like the art style to Peanutsit is simple but iconic. I can tell an illustration is from Peanuts even with no context, as the art style is very unique to Schulz. Also, the way Snoopy is illustrated is very cute. I am always really happy when he appears on a page.

This panel in particular made me go "awww." The simple but cute way Schulz illustrates Snoopy along with the other characters is very nice to view. Overall, I really enjoy Peanuts and will continue to read it even when this class ends.
